There are a couple things that used to guarantee your death in a slasher movie. Having sex was of course one of them. Smoking weed was another. But Laurie Strode was the exception to the latter rule in John Carpenter’s original Halloween, surviving the night’s harrowing events despite getting high with ill-fated friend Annie Brackett early on in the 1978 slasher classic.
It’s only fitting that in the upcoming video game based on John Carpenter’s Halloween, you too can toke up. And rather than signaling an instant death, it might actually help you survive!
Illfonic gave horror fans their first opportunity to play the upcoming Halloween: The Game at Pax East this week, and Slash ‘N Cast was on hand at the event. According to the horror content creator, your playable civilian character can take a break from running for their life and arming themselves for battle with Michael Myers by lighting up a joint and getting high!
Slash ‘N Cast notes, “Smoking weed in Halloween allows you to see Michael’s pings across the map and can give you an advantage.” They add, “it’s a fun gameplay mechanic.”
What else can you do as a civilian? The developers preview, “As a Civilian, it’s up to you to find fellow Haddonfield residents, convince them of Michael’s malicious intent, and guide them safely to one of several possible randomized escapes located around the map before they meet an untimely end. This distinctive cast of playable Civilian characters each comes equipped with unique stats, special traits, and signature personalities.”
“To ensure no two matches of Halloween play out the same, our team has constructed a vast playground of possibilities in Haddonfield, offering Civilians a multitude of diverse gameplay systems to aid them in achieving their objectives and surviving the night,” they continue. “As Civilians navigate these environments, they will uncover points of interest revealing resident NPCs, lootable containers, hiding places, telephones, possible escape routes, and more.”
Halloween: The Game will be released on September 8, 2026.
The upcoming game will invite Halloween fans to step into the chilling world of John Carpenter’s genre-defining film, now transformed into a suspenseful one-versus-many stealth horror experience. Put on the iconic mask to become the ultimate slasher, Michael Myers, stalking and executing the citizens of Haddonfield one by one, or striving to thwart Michael Myers’ plans as Civilians determined to save the unaware townsfolk before it’s too late.
